1. About these terms
These terms apply when you request or book a furniture assembly service from Mark McKnight, trading as McKnight’s Flat Pack Assembly, a local one person service based in Ballyclare, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. They should be read with your written quote and booking confirmation. If there is a conflict, the specific written details agreed for your booking will take priority.
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
2. Services and suitable furniture
The service covers assembly of the furniture listed in your accepted quote, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions where these are available.
Every item is checked before booking to decide whether it is suitable for safe one person assembly. McKnight’s Flat Pack Assembly is generally unable to accept large wardrobes, bunk beds, loft beds, ottoman beds, sliding door wardrobes, large garden structures or furniture that the manufacturer says requires two people. A job may be declined or stopped if the item, instructions, room, access or working conditions make solo assembly unsafe or unsuitable.
3. Information you must provide
To prepare an accurate quote, please provide:
- Your name, contact number, postcode and assembly address.
- A retailer link for every item, or clear photographs and the product name or code if no link is available.
- The quantity of each item and all relevant IKEA planner or product details.
- Your preferred appointment days.
- Details of stairs, restricted access, parking restrictions or paid parking.
- Whether every box has been delivered and is already in the room where assembly will take place.
You are responsible for making sure the information supplied is complete and accurate. A quote may be revised, or a booking may need to be rearranged, if the furniture or working conditions differ materially from the details provided.
4. Quotes and booking confirmation
Quotes are fixed for the furniture and circumstances listed in the quote. Receiving a quote does not reserve an appointment. A booking is confirmed only when you accept the quote and the date and time, or arrival window, are agreed in writing.
The booking confirmation will normally identify the appointment, address, furniture, agreed price, payment method and relevant preparation information. Please check it and report any error promptly.
5. Pricing and additional work
Prices start from a minimum booking charge of £40. Each job is priced individually according to the furniture, number of items, complexity, expected assembly time, travel and any agreed additional requirements.
The price covers only the items and work listed in the quote. Additional items requested during the visit may require a revised price and will only be accepted if there is enough time and the items are suitable for one person assembly. Any disclosed parking charge or other agreed cost will be stated before the booking is confirmed where reasonably possible.
6. What is included
- Assembly of the agreed furniture.
- Standard tools needed for the agreed work.
- Checking and organising the supplied components.
- Basic adjustment of doors and drawers.
- A tidy working area after assembly.
- Packaging placed neatly together for you.
7. What is not included
Unless specifically agreed in writing, the service does not include furniture delivery, carrying or moving heavy boxes, moving existing furniture, dismantling, repairs, replacement parts, electrical or plumbing work, wall mounting, disposal of packaging, or work on items not listed in the quote.
8. Preparing for the appointment
Before arrival, please:
- Make sure all furniture boxes and supplied components have arrived.
- Place the boxes in the room where the completed furniture will be used.
- Clear enough safe floor space for the assembly.
- Remove fragile or valuable items from the work area.
- Arrange suitable parking and disclose access difficulties in advance.
- Keep children and pets away from the work area.
- Make sure an adult is present during the appointment.
If the area cannot be made reasonably safe or accessible, the work may be delayed, reduced or rearranged.
9. Missing, damaged or incorrect parts
Boxes and visible components will be checked before assembly begins, but McKnight’s Flat Pack Assembly is not responsible for manufacturer, retailer or delivery faults. If parts are missing, damaged or incorrect, the item may not be completed.
You are responsible for contacting the retailer or manufacturer and obtaining replacement parts. Any return visit must be arranged separately and may require a new quote.
10. During and after assembly
The furniture will be assembled in its intended room using the manufacturer’s instructions and supplied parts, where available. You will be invited to inspect the completed item. Please raise any visible concern before the visit ends so it can be checked where possible.
Packaging will be gathered neatly together and left with you unless disposal has been expressly agreed in advance.
11. Payment
Payment is due when the agreed assembly is complete and may be made by cash or bank transfer while Mark is onsite, using the method confirmed for your booking. If work cannot be completed for a reason outside the business’s control, any amount due will be discussed fairly based on the circumstances and work completed.
12. Cancellations and rearrangements
Plans can change. Please give as much notice as possible and, wherever possible, at least 24 hours if you need to cancel or rearrange. Late cancellations and missed appointments can result in lost working time, but no cancellation fee will be charged unless one was clearly disclosed and agreed before your booking was confirmed.
Your statutory cancellation rights
If you make a consumer booking entirely by telephone, email, WhatsApp or another distance method, or away from the business premises, you may have a legal right to cancel within 14 days after the contract is made. To cancel, send a clear statement by email or WhatsApp using the contact details below.
If you ask for assembly to begin during that cancellation period, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for work completed before you cancel. The cancellation right may end once the service has been fully performed, but only where you expressly requested early performance and acknowledged that the right would be lost on full completion. These statutory rights take priority over the general 24 hour notice request above.

14. Care, responsibility and consumer rights

McKnight’s Flat Pack Assembly is not responsible for loss or damage caused by a pre existing defect, faulty or unsuitable manufacturer parts, inaccurate instructions, undisclosed weakness, normal characteristics of the product, or information you failed to provide, except to the extent that the loss or damage was caused by a failure to use reasonable care and skill.
